Synopsis:
“Man On the Run” is the definitive accounting of the 1MDB saga and an indictment of the global capitalist system and its inability to regulate itself in the face of avarice and corruption.
Story :
Again, greetings from the shadows. Do you recall the $1,000,000 you bought pop singer Brittany Spears to jump out of a birthday cake at your party? Or the times you paid hefty appearance fees to famous people like Paris Hilton, Jamie Foxx, and Leonardo DiCaprio to attend your extravagant parties? In such case, you are not Jho Low. And for that, we are grateful. Jho Low and Najib Razak, who was the then-prime minister, worked together to steal billions from a fund set up to help Malaysian civilians. Their fund was known as 1MDB (1 Malaysian Development Berhad), and this video by Cassius Michael Kim lays out a textbook instance of corruption, fraud, and greed due to researchers and whistleblowers.
This case of kleptocracy, according to the FBI, is the biggest one so far. Kleptocracy is characterized as corrupt public servants stealing money for their own benefit. Yes, it is where the billions of dollars are made, but in today’s world, superstars are required in order for the general public to take notice. The stunning celebrity montage is intended to appease these viewers, and the usage of these cash to support Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated film THE WOLF OF WALL STREET (2014) may be the ideal illustration of irony. A movie highlighting Wall Street corruption is funded by government corruption. And to top it off, a documentary about the two main conspirators behind this fraudulent scheme is based on that scenario.
The story also features Jho Low, Prime Minister Najib Razak, the celebrities, Najib’s wife, the FBI, Goldman Sachs executives, and several other people who fell victim to the web of greed in addition to Jho Low, Najib, and the celebrities. You may be sure that there are dirty persons involved wherever there is dirty money being spent. Despite the fact that Jho Low continues to be somewhat enigmatic, filmmaker Kim gives many people the chance to express their opinions and views on him. A mysterious person who, while collaborating with the leader of a nation, manages to live affluently by spending money stolen from Malaysians.
The Prime Minister’s wife received a 22-carat diamond, and in the end, they both received what was due to them. But the most recent version of “Where’s Waldo?” is now known as “Where’s Jho Low?” While others pay the price, including a nation that was on the verge of financial collapse, he is the titular man on the run. We do hear from people who are connected with the situation, and the filmmaker does include an interview with the former prime minister. Unfortunately, none of the famous people who took the money agreed to speak on camera out of embarrassment or concern for seeming guilty. However, there is a lot of slime visible.
